Chicago, IL - On Monday, June 08, 2020, the Supreme Court may determine if the Trump administration ended the program lawfully. However, the decision is subject to further delays. It is unclear how the status of DACA recipients will be affected in the event that the Supreme Court rules in favor of the Trump administration. The future is uncertain, but we are in this together.

Nearly 800,000 have received work permits and deportation relief through the DACA program. More than 200,000 DACA recipients are employed in essential industries, with almost 30,000 recipients being healthcare workers. DACA recipients do not only have a presence in the economy but are necessary to restore the health of the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alpha Psi Lambda unequivocally supports our members and those with DACA status and calls on the Supreme Court to preserve the protections against deportation for those in the DACA program. Additionally, we encourage our members to:

Renew your DACA status as soon as possible. If you have DACA status, you should consult with your immigration lawyer to learn about your options.

Reach out to your support networks. We encourage everyone to seek support in ways that are helpful to you and others. Talking with university staff, spiritual/religious advisors, friends, and family about your feelings is a good start.  If you think you may be experiencing an episode of depression or suicidal thoughts, we have included links to crisis hotlines below. We also encourage any member to meet with a counselor from your university’s counseling center.

Tell your universities you want them to make public statements in support of DACA students. Ask your universities what kind of resources they will provide, such as mental health counseling, legal consultation, support for enrollment, scholarships, and financial aid. Universities should also be able to explain the roles of campus and local police in immigration matters and identify a representative to work with DACA students.

Contact policymakers and let them know where you stand. Find your representative’s contact information at the link provided below.

Ensure you are registered to vote. We have included information of upcoming statewide and national elections. We urge you to research the candidates up for election and their stance on DACA.

We ask our members to show support for each other—our membership spans over 35 years. Familia is eternal. Neither time, nor race, nor space will divide us. #DefendDACA
