Hollaback! is a global, people-powered movement to end harassment — in all its forms. We believe that we all deserve to be who we are, wherever we are. We believe we all have a role to play in disrupting harassment and building a culture where it is no longer seen as “just the price you have to pay” for being a woman, LGBTQ+, a person of color, or any other marginalized identity. We teach people to take action, and to reach across their own identities to ally with others and establish a united front against harassment each time we witness it.

Yes Means Yes!: Visions of Female Sexual Power and A World Without Rape Yes Means Yes will bring to the table a dazzling variety of perspectives and experiences focused on the theory that educating all people to value female sexuality and pleasure leads to viewing women differently, and ending rape. Yes Means Yes aims to have radical and far-reaching effects: from teaching men to treat women as collaborators and not conquests, encouraging men and women that women can enjoy sex instead of being shamed for it, and ultimately, that our children can inherit a world where rape is rare and swiftly punished. With commentary on public sex education, pornography, mass media, Yes Means Yes is a powerful and revolutionary anthology.
We Believe You: Survivors of Campus Sexual Assault Speak Out More than 1 in 5 women and 5 percent of men are sexually assaulted at college, a shocking status quo that might have stayed largely hidden and unaddressed but for the two authors of We Believe You. In 2013, Annie E. Clark and Andrea L. Pino, then 23 and 20, building on the work of earlier activists, outed themselves as assault survivors and filed a federal complaint against the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) for mishandling such crimes; within a month, the U.S. government began to investigate UNC. Within a year, dozens of colleges were under federal investigation. But Clark and Pino rightly see themselves as two among many. Students from every kind of college and university--large and small, public and private, highly selective and less so? A sampling of their voices speak out in this book.
Asking for It: The Alarming Rise of Rape Culture--and What We Can Do about ItIn Asking for It, Kate Harding answers those questions in the same blunt, bullshit-free voice that’s made her a powerhouse feminist blogger. Combining in-depth research with practical knowledge, Asking for It makes the case that twenty-first century America—where it’s estimated that out of every 100 rapes only 5 result in felony convictions—supports rapists more effectively than victims. Harding offers ideas and suggestions for addressing how we as a culture can take rape much more seriously without compromising the rights of the accused.
Transgender Sexual Violence Survivors: A Self-Help Guide to Healing and UnderstandingTransgender Sexual Violence Survivors: A Self-Help Guide to Healing and Understanding is a substantial document that includes information about the prevalence of sexual violence against transgender/gender non-conforming individuals; lists common long- and short-term responses to trauma; addresses the question of whether there is a relationship between sexual assault and gender identity issues; discusses issues associated with WPATH Standards of Care and Informed Consent models as they relate to sexual assault survivors and how their gender identity issues are assessed; describes the typical set of services available to sexual violence survivors in their own communities, including how transgender survivors can advocate for their inclusion and/or respectful treatment within such services; provides recommended reading and resource lists of self-help books, websites, and listservs, with annotations describing how well they address transgender survivors and SOFFAs and their issues; and gives quotations from other transgender sexual violence survivors.
The Macho Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women and How All Men Can HelpIn his recent book, The Macho Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women and how All Men Can Help (2006), Katz provides a provocative angle on the controversial correlation between sexism, masculinity, male dominance, and violence against women.
A Guide for Partners and Friends of Transgender Sexual Violence Survivorshttp://forge-forward.org/wp-content/docs/partners-guide.pdf
Not That Bad: Dispatches from Rape CultureCultural critic and bestselling author Roxane Gay has edited a collection of essays that explore what it means to live in a world where women are frequently belittled and harassed due to their gender, and offers a call to arms insisting that "not that bad" must no longer be good enough.
Written on the Body: Letters from Trans and Non-Binary Survivors of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Written by and for trans and non-binary survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, Written on the Body offers support, guidance and hope for those who struggle to find safety at home, in the body, and other unwelcoming places.

This collection of letters written to body parts weaves together narratives of gender, identity, and abuse. It is the coming together of those who have been fragmented and often met with disbelief. The book holds the concerns and truths that many trans people share while offering space for dialogue and reclamation.
Trauma-informed: The Trauma Toolkit A resource for service organizations and providers to deliver services that are trauma-informed (Committee has a digital copy that can be sent out upon request).

The SAPRC is proud to acknowledge the entities who participated in SAAM and earned recognition throughout the month-long campaign to raise awareness.

• During the exam you can expect to be checked for internal or external injuries,
foreign hair samples and semen or other bodily fluids.
• If possible, bring an extra set of clothes (the police may want the clothes worn
during the assault for evidence) and a friend or another supportive person
• Do not shower, drink, eat, douche or change clothes prior to an exam. These
activities destroy important physical evidence that is useful should you decide
to make a police report.
• Also, document everything you remember happening with as much detail as
possible.

On-campusCampus Advocacy NetworkNo1101 W. Taylor Street, 3rd Floor (above Chicago Public Library)

312-413-8206

can-appointment@uic.edu

The Campus Advocacy Network is an on-campus center that serves students, staff and faculty who have experienced sexual assault, domestic/dating violence or stalking. The advocates at CAN have been trained to Illinois state standards in both sexual assault victim advocacy and domestic violence victim advocacy and have extensive training in stalking, as well as many years of experience working in the systems victims often need to access, such as university administrative systems and the criminal and civil court systems. Our services are free, anonymous and confidential and above all, victim-centered.

When we meet with someone who has experienced interpersonal violence the first thing we do is listen to the person’s experience in their own words. Based on the details of what has happened to them we then begin to identify the specific options that are available to them both on and off campus. Once all of their options have been identified we will discuss the details of each option, including helping a victim understand what each process or procedure will look like for them as well as helping them evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of each option.

Sexual assault often goes unreported. Many victims never tell anyone about the assault. This is not because they are unaffected by it, rather it is because they are so deeply affected. Frequently victims believe that the violence perpetrated against them was their fault. They have feelings of shame, guilt, anger and isolation. Often they feel too embarrassed to talk about the attack, even to the people closest to them.

The Sexual Assault Service Center is available to help survivors of sexual violence and their significant others. SASC offers a 24 hour hotline, individual and group counseling (adults & children), legal and medical advocacy, prevention education, and community presentations.

TAO: An online course in mental health.
Behavioral Health Counseling: Solution-focused, skills-building sessions. These sessions occur over 1-5 weeks.
Counseling Groups: A group format is often the most beneficial option for many student concerns. This usually involves 4-12 students and 1 or 2 group facilitators. Most groups meet every week at the same time for 1 ½ hours. Groups differ, but generally, members of the group discuss the issues that are concerning them and offer each other support and feedback.
Individual Counseling: One-on-one work with a counseling provider is reserved for students experiencing higher levels of distress that are severely impacting functioning (e.g., how you interact, your ability to perform academically and occupationally). Students in individual counseling are seen biweekly.
Referral to community providers: If concerns exceed the scope of our brief counseling focus, or if recommended resources are not available within the University, the student will be referred to community providers/resources. The Behavioral Health Case Manager can support you in making your first appointment (e.g., navigating choice and location of provider, cost, transportation, insurance coverage).

Cougar Health Services is also a confidential resource. Regardless of whether you want to make a police report, a health care provider can help assess your wellbeing and personal safety, provide any necessary medical treatment, and help connect you with other resources. Medical services
A variety of medical services are available for victims and survivors of sexual assault, including testing for and medications to prevent HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and, if necessary, pregnancy testing and prophylactics. Health care providers will make individual recommendations based on your situation, and you can choose what services you’d like to receive.
Forensic exam
One of the services we offer is a sexual assault forensic exam to collect physical evidence for use in a law enforcement investigation and possible prosecution. You do not have to speak to the police in order to receive a forensic exam. Law enforcement can anonymously store and maintain the samples collected during the exam should you choose to take further actions later.

Your healthcare provider will explain the exam process before beginning and can answer any questions about what will happen during the exam. Once the examination is completed and samples are collected, they are carefully packaged and stored to maintain the chain of custody and ensure the evidence can be used in court. Clothing, particularly underwear, may be collected as evidence during the exam. We have extra clothing available for patients, but you may want to bring a change of clothes with you.
